The University of South Carolina School of Medicine has a rich history of making a big impact on the health of South Carolina. Founded in 1973, in Columbia, the school has pioneered a medical curriculum to integrate ultrasound technology. They have made big inroads in training physicians focused on rural health, and their research students regularly win major national grants and go on to prestigious post-doctoral positions.

Faculty and students from all programs and departments work to understand and treat health issues that plague our nation. They focus their research on high-impact areas, such as cardiovascular health, neuroscience and cancer.

Their fully-accredited programs give their students hands-on clinical training, faculty mentorship and the opportunity to conduct high-impact research at a Tier 1 research university in a number of health-related fields. The school focuses on high-impact research and improving the health of the state, which is why they offer programs that will train students to do both.
